Bio

I was born here in Macon County.   I moved away when I was younger and then returned after college.  I used to be Tonya Scurlock before marrying my husband, Troy Kirby.  We have an 13 year old son, Isaac.  When school is out, I can be found at the baseball field, basketball court, bike race, cross country track, or at a scout event watching him do what he loves.  Needless to say, he keeps me busy.

I received my B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from Tennessee Tech.  I then went on to get my Master’s degree and Ed.S in Instructional Leadership from TTU also.  This is my 19th year of teaching.  However, it is my 11th year teaching Pre-K here at Westside.  I taught 3rd grade for one year and 2nd grade for 7 years.

I always had the desire to teach Pre-K.  I love to see my sweet kiddos excited to learn.  My goal for my students is that they will leave my class at the end of the year with a love of learning that will stay with him or her through years to come.  Once a child is in my class, I will always refer to him/her as "one of my kids," even when he/she is grown.
